FROM THE ARTIST

I love this piece for its curious blend of contemporary and traditional sailing scenes. I find yachts and their sails and rigging so enchanting that in this work I felt compelled to do them adequate justice, by giving them ore detail than I would otherwise have done for a seascape.

The two sailing boats in the foreground race across the choppy Long Island waters in all their glory — the lean of their respective sails gives them an element of compositionality — opening up the scene and drawing the eye outward and expanding their viewer’s focus. In the distance, little keelboats fit across the water, closer to the safety of the shore.

This painting has been featured in an exhibition of my work at 4 World Trade Center on the 68th floor, November 2014.
